Our Ancestors

Daniel and Dwayne Brooks Ancestors

Pvt. William Graham Allen was enlisted in Co. A, First Battalion, NC Sharp Shooters, September of 1862. Served in the army of late Confederate State, and while in said service was wounded at Mine Run in the state of Virginia, was captured at Hatcher's Run, POW at Point Lookout, MD. He is the Brooks' GGG uncle.

James Joseph Allen - was with the 48th regiment Co. G NC infantry. Fought in the battles of Harpers Ferry, Sharpsburg and Fredericksburg. He is the Brook's GGG uncle.

Anderson Wells - volunteered and enlisted in the Confederate Army June 10, 1861. He died at the Home for Disabled Ex-Confederate Soldiers: Declared three quarters disability June 1901, due to exposure in the war. He is the Brooks' GGG uncle.

Thomas Newton Allen - He was a conscientious objector but was taken in the Confederate Army at the age of 17 years, 5 months, 21 days. He is the Brooks' GGG uncle.

Late Mike Shaw's Ancestor

Capt. Evander Mcnair Blue was with the Moore County Scotch Riflemen Unit. He is the late, Mike Shaw's grandfather.

 
 
 
Jack L. & C.L. York's Ancestors

Pvt. Solomon York - Enlisted June 18, 1861 in a company raised in Randolph County, who called themselves the Uwharries Rifles. They were mustered into service and assigned to the 22nd Regiment Company L. He served as a Teamster during the war, was captured on or near Hatcher's Run, Virginia, 2nd of April 1865. Pvt. Solomon York was confined at the P.O.W. at Harts Island, New York Harbor until released on or about 20th of June 1865 after taking the Oath of Allegiance. Solomon died on the 15th of December 1910 and was buried at Pleasant Ridge Church Cemetery, Ramseur, NC. He is the great grandfather of Jack L. and C.L. York.

Pvt. Joseph P. York - he enrolled for active service, the 25th of February 1862. He mustered into service, March 10th, 1862. He served as a Teamster and Brigade. His name appears on a Roll of Honor with remark "wounded in battle". Pvt. Joseph York was paroled at Appomattox Court House, Va. on the 9th of April, 1865. Joseph York died on the 14th of September, 1895, buried at York/Wright/Craven Cemetery in Ramseur, NC. He is the great granduncle of Jack L. and C.L. York.

Pvt. Braxton (Braxon)York - Enrolled for active service the 6th of March 1862 in John M. Odell's Company (Randolph's Hornets) and was mustered into service the 10th of March 1862. This became Company M of the 22nd N.C. Infantry Regiment. Pvt. York was wounded 30th of June 1862, probably at Frayser's Farm and died 1st of July 1862. He is the great granduncle of Jack L. and C.L. York.

Bobby Keener's Ancestor

2nd Sergeant Elbert Sevier Keener, 16 NC Thomas Legion Company F. Discharged in 1865. Buried at Jackson County NC, Thomas Memorial Cemetery. He is Bobby Hugh Keener's GGG grandfather.

Matthew Needham's Ancestors

Pvt. Ephraim Yawn - Born 1833, enlisted with Telfair Co. Volunteers, known as the 49th Georgia Infantry Regiment Company B. Died December 28, 1863. He is Matthew Needham's GGG uncle

PVT. Allen Yawn - Born 1836, enlisted with Telfair Co. Volunteers, known as the 49th Georgia Infantry Regiment Company B. He was killed in action on April 2, 1865. He is Matthew Needham's GGG uncle

Pvt. James Wesley - Born 1842, enlisted with Telfair Co. Volunteers, knows a sthe 49th Georgia Regiment Company B. He died in Georgia in 1911. He is Matthew Needham's GGG uncle.

Tim Allred's Ancestor

Daniel Washington Millikan - Born January 8, 1828, was drafted and ordered to Camp Holmes NC, was later sent to Petersburg VA with the 38th NC Co. B. He surrendered on April 9, 1865 at Appomatox Court House. He died February 1914. He is Tim Allred's great grandfather

Terry Hurst Ancestors

Sgt Major Greenville Webb - 152 Virginia Militia and Sgt, Co. I(2) 63rd Virginia infantry. Wounded during Hoods retreat from Atlanta. He is Terry Hurst 2nd Great Grandfather.

Pvt. Jesse T. Hurst - Co. D 29th Virginia Infantry, wounded May 16th, 1864 at Drewery's Bluff. He is Terry Hurst ancestor.

1st Lt. Isaac Webb - Co. G 63rd Virginia Infantry. Commanded Co I(2) 63rd Virginia Infantry in the spring of 1863. Mustered out, May 2nd 1865 at Greensboro after the Battle of Bentonville. He is Terry Hurst ancestor.

Captain Sparrel Ratliff - Co. I 64th Virginia Mounted Rifles, Co. F 21st Virginia Infantry, Co. I 10th Kentucky Calvary. Taken POW on Gen. Hunt Morgan's Raid on Mt. Sterling Ky. on June 10th, 1864. Sent to Johnson's Island POW Camp, paroled May 19th, 1865. He is Terry Hurst GG uncle.

PVT William F. Hurst - Co. F 54th Virginia Infantry. Received commendation from Col. Trigg for capturing state flag of the 22nd Michigan on Snodgrass Hill at the Battle of Chickamauga. He was the Colonel's Courier. He is Terry Hurst ancestor.

Pvt. John H. Harris - Co. 54th Virginia Infantry, killed at the Battle of Perryville. Buried at the Lexington City Cemetery in a mass grave. He is Terry Hurst ancestor.

Dwain Robert's Ancestors

Pvt. Stanton Presnell Born in Randolph County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Randolph County at age 21, March 12, 1862. Wounded in the right knee and right hand and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 3, 1863. Hospitalized at Chester, Pennsylvania. Transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, where he arrived on October 4, 1863. Paroled at Point Lookout on April 27, 1864. Received at City Point, Va., April 30, 1864, for exchange. Hospitalized at Richmond Va., May 1, 1864, with chronic rheumatism. Furloughed for thirty days on May 5, 1864. dropped from the company rolls prior to July 1, 1864. reason he was dropped not reported. Survived the war. He is Dwain Roberts ancestor.
